Services for Patient Level Costing and
Service Line Reporting
All PSCAL solutions are designed so
that they can be implemented by Trust staff without the need
for expensive consultancy services. However, we do offer supporting
service if and when required.
Project Management
PSCAL project managers all have a good
understanding of NHS finance. They will advise on the tasks
and processes required to achieve patient level costing and
service line reporting. They will support all levels of the
project from initiation to final delivery. The
project manager will work with the Trust’s senior management
to define objectives and agree priorities. He or she will
then work with the individual departments to ensure that all
necessary tasks are completed to ensure delivery on-time and
within budget.
Systems Integration for Patient Level
Costing
Extracting and transforming activity information
from departmental database can be complex and time consuming.
PSCAL can help you to get the activity information you need
for patient level costing and to populate Cost Master PLC with
this information. We can
also automate the interfaces using Microsoft data transformation
services, a built in module of SQL server.
PSCAL offer everything from project
management, technical advice and full development and implementation
of interface for our clients.
Change Management
The introduction of service line reporting
is a major change in the use of information to manage the NHS.
Its introduction needs to be effectively managers and may require
some awareness training and organisational restructuring to
maximise its usefulness. PSCAL
can work with the Trust to increase and improve the awareness
of service line reporting and its value. This can be achieved
via a mix of workshops and one-to-one meeting with directorates
and departments. We can also support Directorate management
in their early use of service line reports.
Our consultants can also advise senior
management on any organisational changes which would improve
the use of service line reporting in the tactical and strategic
management of the Trust.
Implementation services
PSCAL provides an implementation and training
package with all its solutions. This involves one to one assistance
with configuration and the daily use of our software.
We have found that, from time to time Trusts
will re-organise or staff will move on. When this happens
PSCAL offers additional on-site implementation and training,
to assist in re-configuring software and training new staff.
Our aim is to ensure that the Trust continues to get maximum
value from our solutions.
Training
We provide on-site training courses for our
suite of products and for other specialist products used for
costing and SLA monitoring.

Training Courses
PSCAL runs training courses for its software
application throughout the year. The courses run in various
locations within our training centre network. The training
is hands-on for groups of 6 to 8 attendees. For details of

Total Costing Service
One of the cornerstones of accurate financial
management is the correct allocation of costs. Many Trusts
struggle to find the time and skilled resource necessary to
complete this task successfully. However the information is
necessary and time critical for budget planning and negotiating
service level agreements.
PSCAL’s total costing service takes
care of the whole process. We will work with a Trust to ensure
that accurate costs are available on-time. Our approach is
based on a proven structured methodology developed by our
most experienced consultants. We will:
- Create and manage the project plan
- Liaise with Directors and department heads
- Compare and balance our figures with those
of the general ledger
- Complete the trusts Performance Manager
returns to the DoH
- Train staff to make best use of the information
once the project is complete
Total Reporting Service
All PSCAL products are supplied with a comprehensive
range of reports. However, some Trusts may require specialist
reports to assist the management process. Our consultants
will meet with Trust Directors and information managers to
clearly understand the local needs for financial management
information. As part of this service we can provide:

Interim Staffing
Trusts often suffer from an ‘information
drought’ when key staff move on. It takes time to recruit
and train new finance managers. PSCAL provide interim financial
skills to assist Trusts in producing cost and income reports.
